Pimpama Braces

At Pimpama Dental, some of our skilled dentists provide metal braces suitable for all ages, addressing a variety of orthodontic concerns.

Today’s metal braces are a far cry from those of the past. They’re not only more comfortable and less noticeable but also the sturdiest and most resilient option available. For more complex orthodontic cases, they often stand as the sole solution.

WHAT ARE METAL BRACES?

Metal braces consist of brackets affixed to the teeth, held together with wires and bands. These components exert gentle pressure, gradually aligning and moving teeth to their optimal positions. Modern metal braces are more streamlined, efficient, and less obtrusive than their predecessors, offering enhanced comfort. They are the go-to solution for various orthodontic issues, including misaligned and protruding teeth, and can be combined with other treatments.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF METAL BRACES?

Metal braces are renowned for their strength and support. They resist staining better than other braces and are less prone to damage, even during sports or accidents.

Whether you’re eligible for other orthodontic treatments, you might opt for metal braces due to their cost-effectiveness and robustness. For children who may be hesitant about the metallic appearance, the braces can be personalised with colourful bands for a more appealing look.

WHO IS SUITABLE FOR METAL BRACES?

Metal braces offer a versatile and affordable orthodontic solution for adults, teenagers, and children with various dental conditions. Their durability means they are less likely to require repairs or replacements throughout the treatment.

HOW ARE BRACES FITTED?

Choosing braces starts with an initial consultation with an orthodontically trained dentist at Pimpama Dental. They will outline the treatment, answer questions, and take necessary x-rays, photos, and impressions.

If any dental work is needed before fitting the braces, you will be informed.

During the fitting, a Pimpama Dental orthodontic provider will clean and prepare your teeth, attach the brackets, cement the bands, and connect the wires. The entire process typically takes around an hour.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

Post-fitting, regular check-ups every four to six weeks are essential. These visits allow your dentist to monitor progress, adjust brackets, and replace bands. Generally, treatments with metal braces are completed within 24 months.

Though the fitting is painless, some initial soreness is normal. Most patients fully adapt within a month.

For the first couple of days, soft foods are recommended, along with avoiding acidic items and unnecessary touching of the braces. Any discomfort can be managed with over-the-counter pain relief and provided orthodontic wax.

Temporary discomfort is normal, but if sores develop, they are usually due to accidental biting or bracket friction.

More Information on Braces

At what age can I get braces?

Braces are generally done for children from the age of 12 or when all adult teeth have come through. However, adults can also get braces at almost any age.

Will my braces hurt?

Braces may take some time getting used to. Your mouth needs time to adapt and the braces may rub on your lips and cheeks.

After every adjustment your braces will feel tight and you may experience gum tenderness. These symptoms are minor and can be managed with mild pain relief and orthodontic wax.

How do I care for my teeth while wearing braces?

With braces, dental hygiene is vital. It’s important to regularly clean around the brackets and your gum line to maintain good oral health. Our dentist will show you the best way to maintain your teeth while wearing braces. It’s also important to regularly visit your dental practice for cleaning appointments.

How long do I have to wear my braces?

The length of time you need to wear your braces will depend on the complexity of your case. Treatment length can range from a few months to between 24 and 36 months.

Our dentist will provide you with an estimated timeline during your initial consultation.

Can I pay off my braces over time?

At Pimpama Dental, you can pay off your orthodontic treatment over 12 months.  Contact us for more information.
